Pbit to KiB - Conversion Formula and Steps

Petabit and Kibibyte are units of digital information used to measure storage capacity and data transfer rate. Petabit is a decimal standard unit where as Kibibyte is binary. One Petabit is equal to 1000^5 bits. One Kibibyte is equal to 1024 bytes. There are 0.000000000008192 Petabits in one Kibibyte. - view the difference between both units

Kibibyte (KiB)
Equal to 1024 bytes
(Binary Unit)

The formula of converting the Petabit to Kibibyte is represented as follows :

KiB = Pbit x 10005 / (8x1024)

Note : Here we are converting the units between different standards. The source unit Petabit is Decimal where as the target unit Kibibyte is Binary. In such scenario, first we need to convert the source unit to the basic unit - Bit - multiply with 1000^5, and then convert to target unit by dividing with 8x1024 .

Now let us apply the above formula and, write down the steps to convert from Petabit (Pbit) to Kibibyte (KiB).

  1. STEP 1 → Kibibyte = Petabit x 10005 / (8x1024)
  2. STEP 2 → Kibibyte = Petabit x (1000x1000x1000x1000x1000) / (8x1024)
  3. STEP 3 → Kibibyte = Petabit x 1000000000000000 / 8192
  4. STEP 4 → Kibibyte = Petabit x 122070312500

Example : If we apply the above steps, conversion from 10 Pbit to KiB, will be processed as below.

  1. = 10 x 10005 / (8x1024)
  2. = 10 x (1000x1000x1000x1000x1000) / (8x1024)
  3. = 10 x 1000000000000000 / 8192
  4. = 10 x 122070312500
  5. = 1220703125000
  6. i.e. 10 Pbit is equal to 1,220,703,125,000 KiB.

(Result rounded off to 40 decimal positions.)

You can use above formula and steps to convert Petabit to Kibibyte using any of the programming language such as Java, Python or Powershell.

Definition : Petabit

A Petabit (Pb or Pbit) is a unit of measurement for digital information transfer rate. It is equal to 1,000,000,000,000,000 (one quadrillion) bits. It is commonly used to measure the speed of data transfer over computer networks, such as internet connection speeds.

Definition : Kibibyte

A Kibibyte (KiB) is a unit of digital information that is equal to 1024 bytes (or 8,192 bits) and is defined by the International Electro technical Commission(IEC). The prefix "kibi" is derived from the binary number system and it is used to distinguish it from the decimal-based "kilobyte" (KB). It is widely used in the field of computing as it more accurately represents the amount of data storage and data transfer in computer systems.

Python Code for Pbit to KiB Conversion

You can use below code to convert any value in Petabit to Kibibyte in Python.

petabit = int(input("Enter Petabit: "))
kibibyte = petabit * (1000*1000*1000*1000*1000) / (8*1024)
print("{} Petabit = {} Kibibyte".format(petabit,kibibyte))

The first line of code will prompt the user to enter the Petabit as an input. The value of Kibibyte is calculated on the next line, and the code in third line will display the result.
