TB to KiB - Conversion Formula and Steps

Terabyte and Kibibyte are units of digital information used to measure storage capacity and data transfer rate. Terabyte is a decimal standard unit where as Kibibyte is binary. One Terabyte is equal to 1000^4 bytes. One Kibibyte is equal to 1024 bytes. There are 0.000000001024 Terabytes in one Kibibyte. - view the difference between both units

Kibibyte (KiB)
Equal to 1024 bytes
(Binary Unit)

The formula of converting the Terabyte to Kibibyte is represented as follows :

KiB = TB x 10004 / 1024

Note : Here we are converting the units between different standards. The source unit Terabyte is Decimal where as the target unit Kibibyte is Binary. In such scenario, first we need to convert the source unit to the basic unit - Byte - multiply with 1000^4, and then convert to target unit by dividing with 1024 .

Now let us apply the above formula and, write down the steps to convert from Terabyte (TB) to Kibibyte (KiB).

  1. STEP 1 → Kibibyte = Terabyte x 10004 / 1024
  2. STEP 2 → Kibibyte = Terabyte x (1000x1000x1000x1000) / 1024
  3. STEP 3 → Kibibyte = Terabyte x 1000000000000 / 1024
  4. STEP 4 → Kibibyte = Terabyte x 976562500

Example : If we apply the above steps, conversion from 10 TB to KiB, will be processed as below.

  1. = 10 x 10004 / 1024
  2. = 10 x (1000x1000x1000x1000) / 1024
  3. = 10 x 1000000000000 / 1024
  4. = 10 x 976562500
  5. = 9765625000
  6. i.e. 10 TB is equal to 9,765,625,000 KiB.

(Result rounded off to 40 decimal positions.)

You can use above formula and steps to convert Terabyte to Kibibyte using any of the programming language such as Java, Python or Powershell.

Definition : Terabyte

A Terabyte (TB) is a unit of digital information that is equal to 1,000,000,000,000 bytes (or 8,000,000,000,000 bits) and commonly used to measure the storage capacity of computer hard drives, flash drives, and other digital storage devices. It is also used to express data transfer speeds and in the context of data storage and memory, the binary-based unit of Tebibyte (TiB) is used instead.

Definition : Kibibyte

A Kibibyte (KiB) is a unit of digital information that is equal to 1024 bytes (or 8,192 bits) and is defined by the International Electro technical Commission(IEC). The prefix "kibi" is derived from the binary number system and it is used to distinguish it from the decimal-based "kilobyte" (KB). It is widely used in the field of computing as it more accurately represents the amount of data storage and data transfer in computer systems.

Python Code for TB to KiB Conversion

You can use below code to convert any value in Terabyte to Kibibyte in Python.

terabyte = int(input("Enter Terabyte: "))
kibibyte = terabyte * (1000*1000*1000*1000) / 1024
print("{} Terabyte = {} Kibibyte".format(terabyte,kibibyte))

The first line of code will prompt the user to enter the Terabyte as an input. The value of Kibibyte is calculated on the next line, and the code in third line will display the result.
